We are happy to begin our 4th year of Tamil Palli in Omaha.

Thanks to Hindu Temple, we are continuing at the same Hindu Temple Classrooms on Saturdays from 9AM to 1:10PM with 2 class timings.

Fee:

Thanks to our volunteer teachers and temple, we are keeping our costs to a minimum. We need to increase the fee to $100 (cash only please) per student for the year to accommadate the following:
  1. Additional expenses to rent the class room for 2 sessions
  2. Annual day expenses

Minimum Requirements:

Nilai Requirement; We’ll require a proof of age at the time of registration/payment(PP/Birth Certificate).
Arumbu Completed 4 years as of August 15, 2017
Please note that this is Mazhalai Nilai syllabus without any tests or promotions. Students will continue in Mazhalai the following year. This Nilai was introduced only to accommodate eager parents who wants to expose the young ones to class room setup.
Mazhalai Completed 5 years as of August 15, 2017.
1 Completed 6 years as of August 15, 2017 or Completed Mazhalai Nilai successfully with a recommendation from teacher.
2, 3, 4 & 5 Completed previous Nilai successfully with a recommendation from teacher.

For new parents & students:

  1. We are following American Tamil Academy for course content. You can check their website here http://www.amtaac.org
  2. Each Nilai consists of 25 classes of 2 hours each per week with 3 Term Tests and requires 10-15 minutes of studying/homework every day.
  3. There will be an "Annual Day" event at the end of the school year
  4. ATA prescribed text books and homework books are followed.

TAMIL SANGAM COMMITTEE IS PLANNING TO PREPARE FOOD IN THE TEMPLE KITCHEN FOR OUR OWN TAMIL NEW YEAR EVENT AND ALSO THROUGH OUR POTLUCK STYLE AS WELL

We are in need of volunteers in the following areas
1. Temple Kitchen during April 15th - To cook for the event.
2. Cooking a small batch of any of the following item at YOUR HOME as part of the Tamil New year event.
- POTATO DRY PORIYAL
- OOTHAPPAM DOSAI

RECIPE AND QUANTITY WILL BE CONSULTED WITH YOU AFTER YOU SIGN UP. ( QTY not more than quarter tray/person )

Art Competition and Vannakolam ( Rangoli ) competition

Date - April 2nd 2017
Venue - Hindu Temple Social Hall
Time - 1 Hour ( Competition starts at 2pm )
All the participants need time to settle down and start. If you are not present in the hall by 2pm you will not be allowed to participate.
Age Group
Group A - Below 6 yrs
Group B - 6 yrs to 9 yrs
Group C - 10 yrs to 13 yrs
Group D - 14 yrs to 17 yrs
Kolam Competition Age group -- Adults above 21 years of age.


Rules - KIDS ART COMPETITION THEME - Life and Culture in the villages of Tamil Nadu 1. Participants will have 1 hour to finish their art piece. 2. Any color or art medium can be used ( Color pencil, graphite pencil, Water, Acrylic, Oil , pallet etc ) 3. Participants need to bring with them all necessary accessories and materials including pencils, colors, erasers, scratch paper etc. 4. Tamil Sangam will provide art paper to the participants, size of art paper shall be 11 inch x 14 inch 5. Use of scale, geometrical instruments is acceptable. Refrain from using stencils. 6. Scores are obtained by following ways a) Finishing b) Selection of Colors c) imagination d) Contrast e) Creativity f) Neatness g) presentation h) Theme 7. The winners from each age group shall be judged based on the above criteria only. 8. Parents can be present in the hall but not help the participants during the competition. 9. Judges decision will be final. Results will be announced on 4/15/2017 during the new year celebration

VANNA KOLAM COMPETITION

THEME - FESTIVALS OF INDIA 1) Kolam art should not exceed the size of 3 ft x 4 ft..Mat boards will be provided for all the contestants. 2) Lead participant in an entry should be at least 21 years old. All others participants in the group need to be 15 year old or above. 3) A group may have no more than two participants. 4) Competition dates duration – 2 hours 1. April 2nd 2017 , Sunday - 2PM to 4PM. 2. Your art should be completed by 4pm and be ready for judging. 5) Please bear in mind that your Kolam art should not offend the viewers and is presentable to viewers of all ages. 6) Participants need to bring all the required materials for their Rangoli. No liquids colors, paints and spray colors permitted. Flowers,grass, edible, natural materials and colors can be used. 7) Kolam/Rangoli should be prepared from scratch on the provided space. No part of the art can be pre-made before arriving to the competition. 8) Viewers votes and judges opinion combined will determine the winners. 9) Top 3 winners will be announced at a brief prize distribution ceremony at Tamil Sangam Chittirai Thiruvizha held on April 15th Sunday . Participants are required to be present at this ceremony. 10) Multiple entries by one person are not allowed. 11) Lead participant is responsible for all communication with the group. Organizers will only communicate with Lead participant. 12) In case of any additions in the rules and regulations or any changes, Organizers will contact the lead participants either by email or contact number. 13) Judging will be based on the following Criteria 1) Overall Appearance and appeal 2) Design/Theme 3) Details and clarity in Rangoli art 4) Color combination 5) Creativity, New ideas 14.
